£5 British Airways return flights for summer 2027

Use 28,000+ Avios plus £5 cash for return flights to either Majorca or Crete

From mid-morning on Thursday 22 October, British Airways is putting its next two Avios-only flights on sale. The return flights cost £5 per person, plus at least 28,000 Avios.

Here's what's on offer:

  • Heathrow to Palma, Majorca, on Saturday 14 August 2027, returning on Saturday 21 August 2027. Return economy seats available from 28,000 Avios plus £5

  • Heathrow to Heraklion, Crete, on Saturday 14 August 2027, returning on Saturday 21 August 2027. Return economy seats available from 35,500 Avios plus £5

You'll need to use more Avios and spend more money if you want to fly business class.

Seats will go on sale on Thursday 22 October. British Airways hasn't given an exact launch time beyond 'mid-morning', so it's a good idea to keep your eyes peeled on its social media channels for more info.

You'll be able to book flights online at British Airways once they've launched. Select 'Book with Avios' and make sure to have your account details to hand.

Avios-only flights can sell out within a couple of hours to a few days, so if this is something you're after it's best to go quickly.

Remember: These options are for flights only and don't include accommodation.

British Airways January sale

Eg, Heathrow to New York £362 return, Gatwick to Antigua £388 return

Website: British Airways
Started: Wednesday 17 December 2025
End date: Tuesday 27 January 2026

Sale strength: In comparison to its Black Friday 2025 sale, return fares between the UK and destinations in America (including New York and Los Angeles) are ever so slightly cheaper.

Similarly, its weekend European city breaks to Barcelona, Nice and Venice, which are priced at £159 per person, cost the same as its Black Friday sale. The sale only includes flights from Heathrow, Gatwick and London City airports, so no regional hubs.

British Airways says "advertised flight and holiday sale fares are discounted from the lowest price available in the 42 days before 17 December 2025". Flights and holidays are dynamically priced based on availability, which means discounts on fares and packages can fluctuate, so if there's a flight you're after, use tools such as Skyscanner and Google Flights to track prices. See our guide on how to find cheap flights for tips.

The January sale includes more long-haul destinations, such as Antigua, St Kitts and Kingston, compared to its Black Friday sale. The airline also has seven-night beach holiday packages to Malaga, Malta, and Mallorca from £299 per person.

Likely to boost? British Airways expanded the scope of its Black Friday sale after Cyber Monday to include economy fares to Europe, so the same could happen in its January sale. Currently, the sale only includes business class fares to Europe.

British Airways boosted its sale on Thursday 8 January, with the flag carrier offering up to £300 off a flight and hotel booking. The discounts are:

  • £300 extra discount with a minimum spend of £10,000 on a flight & hotel booking

  • £200 extra discount with a spend of £5,000 on a flight & hotel booking

  • £100 extra discount with a spend of £2,500 on a flight & hotel booking, or a hotel and car booking

  • £50 extra discount with a spend of £1,250 on a flight & hotel booking, or a hotel and car booking

  • £25 extra discount with a spend of £625 on a flight & hotel booking, or a hotel and car booking

The discount is valid on holidays booked before 11.59pm on Tuesday 13 January, for travel in 2026.

There's a little-known piece of legislation that turns any credit card into a financial self-defence superhero. 'Section 75' of the Consumer Credit Act means your plastic must protect anything you buy for more than £100 for free, so if there's a problem or the company goes bust, you can still get your money back.
And although Section 75 doesn't apply to debit cards, there is something else to fall back on if you've paid using a debit card, or used a credit card for a purchase under £100. Known as Chargeback, this is part of banks' and card companies' internal rules and not a legal requirement. Read full details of Section 75 or Chargeback, plus how to claim, in our guides.
