Black Friday sale

Waiting may mean more choice, but not necessarily a lower price

Travel company MSC Cruises launched its Black Friday sale on Friday 30 October, one week earlier than we predicted.

It's offering 'up to 30% off' selected sailings booked by Tuesday 8 December, for travel between Sunday 1 November and 31 May 2027.

How good is this sale? When we checked, MSC Cruises' Black Friday offer covered 500+ sailings. This year's headline discount of up to 30% off is lower than the up to 50% off advertised last year, though last year's biggest saving required a higher spend.

In our spot checks, the typical saving this year is 22% off. It's best to compare the total price of the sailing you want rather than focusing solely on the advertised percentage.

Below are some sailings we spotted on Tuesday 3 November:

What does 'up to 30% off' mean?

  • Minimum discount we spotted: 19%

  • Maximum discount we spotted: 33%

  • Typical discount based on 10 random sailings: 22%

Is it worth waiting? Possibly, though there's no guarantee you'll pay less. Like flights and package holidays, cruise prices can change depending on availability.

However, waiting could give you more choice. MSC Cruises told us it'll add a wider range of dates during November, including summer 2027 and winter 2027/28 sailings. So if you're looking to travel after 31 May 2027, it could be worth holding off to see what's added.

Extra 5% off for Voyagers Club members: While it’s free to become a member, it's only open to people who’ve been on an MSC cruise since 2006, or anyone who has a confirmed booking.

Important: Don’t allow yourself to be taken in by the hype around Black Friday and be sucked into buying something you don’t need or can’t afford. Always do your own price comparisons to ensure you’re getting the best deal.

There's a little-known piece of legislation that turns any credit card into a financial self-defence superhero. 'Section 75' of the Consumer Credit Act means your plastic must protect anything you buy for more than £100 for free, so if there's a problem or the company goes bust, you can still get your money back.
And although Section 75 doesn't apply to debit cards, there is something else to fall back on if you've paid using a debit card, or used a credit card for a purchase under £100. Known as Chargeback, this is part of banks' and card companies' internal rules and not a legal requirement. Read full details of Section 75 or Chargeback, plus how to claim, in our guides.
